The MMF Industry

At the end 2012 total assets under management (AUM) of money market funds in Europe was approximately €1 trillion.

IMMFA represents European constant net asset value funds, both distributing and accumulating, which make up approximately 50% of this total.

At the same date, AUM for rule 2a-7* money market funds in the US were approximately $2.6 trillion.

Regulators in both jurisdictions are considering how to amend money market fund regulation in order to reduce any remaining systemic risk and to make money market funds even more robust for investors.

* This refers to rule 2a-7 under the US Investment Company Act of 1940.
